GRAND RAPIDS, MI — Police are looking for the driver of an older model silver Chevrolet Malibu that may have crashed into a three-wheel cycle on U.S. 131 North Saturday evening.
The preliminary investigation by the Michigan State Police shows a Can-Am Spyder, ridden by a 48-year-old Muskegon man, crashed into the right shoulder wall after the man lost control of the three-wheeler at around 7:04 p.m. on Saturday, July 3.
The crash occurred just south of Wealthy Street on U.S. 131 North.
The operator of the cycle and his 13-year-old rider were transported to the hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. Neither the cyclist nor the rider were wearing helmets, police said.
According to statements obtained by troopers, a silver, older model Chevrolet Malibu driven by a female, who appeared to be in her mid-40s, possibly struck the cyclist causing the man operating it to lose control and crash into the wall. The silver Chevrolet Malibu continued north on US-131 after the incident.
Any witnesses to the crash, or those who provided aid on-scene, are asked to contact the Michigan State Police Grand Rapids Post at 616-866-4411.
Police want to give special thanks to several citizens who provided aid prior to the arrival of first responders.
Troopers from the Grand Rapids Post were assisted on scene by Grand Rapids Fire Department and L.I.F.E. EMS.
