Downtown Seal Beach will become a pedestrian plaza on Saturday, April 30, but the emphasis will remain on cars — it’s the 34th annual Classic Car Show.
If it feels like the show just happened, that’s because it did.
Last year’s show moved to October because of coronavirus health restrictions earlier in 2021. But organizers at the Seal Beach Chamber of Commerce decided to get the show back to its traditional last week of April as soon as possible, according to a press release.
More than 530 classic cars, hot rods and more are expected to participate in the show, which runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Vehicles will line Main Street, stretching from Ocean Avenue to Pacific Coast Highway, with some spillover to side streets. There will also be activity in the pier parking lots.
The car show is free to attend. The Naval Weapons Station will offer free parking, with entry at the station’s Liberty Gate on Seal Beach Boulevard, between Electric Avenue and Pacific Coast Highway. A double-decker bus will transport car fans from the Naval Station to the show from an hour before the event begins to an hour after in ends, or from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
More than 20,000 spectators are expected to attend.
Cars will be parked around restaurant parklets, so people can drink and dine while surrounded by pristine vehicles. The Seal Beach Lions Club will also serve pancakes for breakfast and hot dogs for lunch at the foot of the pier.
There will be live music as well, with two stages. Four bands will play through the day: Down the Hatch, The Bierman Brothers Band, Flying Squad and OC Ragdoll Band.
Main Street will close early Saturday morning to get the cars and other vehicles parked. It will take some time to clear the area afterwards, officials said.
