It’s back! Motors and Meals will make its return after being idle during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Northwest Valley Connect’s annual fundraising event, Motors and Meals, is scheduled 10:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 23 at Beardsley Recreation Center, 12755 W. Beardsley Road, Sun City West.

There is no admission charge for the event, which includes live entertainment, food trucks, car show, wine and beer tent, and exhibits from local businesses and organizations. Attendees may be interested in the many donated items available in the event’s drawing. The North Country Fire and Medical Department will be available with a demonstration on drones.

“Hundreds of people have attended this event in the past years and we’re glad to bring it back,” said Julie Kent-Partridge, NVC Board of Directors chairwoman. “One of many businesses that has supported the event for five years is a favorite diner, Kstar BBQ, a desired fare among the attendees.”

This very popular event will be a great time for people to get together, have a good time and learn about community agencies and businesses, she added.

The event is supported by community sponsors, such as Benevilla, Arizona Public Service, Western State Bank and Desert Diamond Casino. Businesses and nonprofit organizations wishing to participate should contact Kathryn Chandler, NVC executive director and mobility manager, at 623-282-9304.

“Safety precautions while delivering transit services to community members are of the utmost importance and transitions to this event. We recognize COVID viruses remain in the environment, and we will be working with health care professionals to ensure social distancing and provide hand sanitizing and whatever else may be beneficial,” Chandler said.

Northwest Valley Connect is a nonprofit organization that provides essential transit service available to more than 8,500 seniors 65 and older, those with disabilities and veterans living independently in the Northwest Valley who are without access to public transportation. Transit services address people who can’t physically get to designated locations for dial-a-rides and the lower income people not able to use taxi services, such as Lyft or Uber, because of the number of rides needed each week for dialysis, cancer treatments or other essential services.

Motors and Meals is a yearly fundraiser event. The funds raised resulting from this event go toward operating a mobility program for people that otherwise would not have a ride.

People interested in volunteering, or have questions, are encouraged to call the NVC office at 623-282-9300.
