Blue Jays: Prospect Addison Barger hit for the cycle last night - Jays Journal

Toronto’s Low A affiliate, the Dunedin Blue Jays, have had a rough start to the season, currently sitting at an 8-15 record with their pitching staff struggling to find consistency and keep runs off the board. While the team is filled with mostly fresh prospects and younger players, the roster does boast some of the top prospects in the organization such as Orelvis Martinez (#6), Miguel Hiraldo (#8), Leo Jimenez (#12), and Nick Frasso (#23).

Last night, it was shortstop Addison Barger who stole the show against the Tampa Tarpons, hitting for the cycle while going five for five with one single, one double, one triple, and two home runs to capture the elusive feat. The Blue Jays would also go on to win the game 14-7.

Drafted by the organization back in 2018, Addison Barger has spent the past two seasons in the organization’s rookie leagues and made the jump this year to Low A ball, with last night’s hit for the cycle being one of his biggest professional accomplishments.

He is currently one of the team’s hottest hitters, as he sports a  .319/.388/.625 slash line with four home runs, 18 RBI, and a 1.013 OPS. With his two home runs last night, Barger currently sits tied for second in all of the Low-A Southeast League in terms of round-trippers and within the top ten for RBI and hits (23).

For Barger, the next step in his career development would be to move to High A Vancouver, a transition that could take place later this season if he keeps performing well. He will have a tough task ahead of him though if he continues to climb the ladder, as the Blue Jays are stocked full of infield talents such as Jordan Groshans, Austin Martin (when he’s not in center field), Martinez, Hiraldo, Jimenez, and Otto Lopez. While the task is not impossible, hitting well like he is this season should surely see his stock rise not only in the farm system but possibly into the lower half of the top 30 prospect rankings.

There have only been three players who have hit for the cycle at the major league level for the Blue Jays, with Cavan Biggio being the most recent player to accomplish it back in 2019.
