Eric De La Rosa slammed a two-run homerun in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift the West Michigan Whitecaps to a 12-10 win over Dayton.
The walk-off blast enabled De La Rosa to complete the cycle in a game that was suspended Friday and completed Sunday at LMCU Ballpark. West Michigan then dropped Sunday’s scheduled series finale 5-3.

It was West Michigan’s first game-winning homerun since Lance Durham did so on May 26, 2013, and it capped a four-run inning after the Dragons had taken a 10-9 lead. De La Rosa is a 24-year-old native of Spring Valley, Calif. The Detroit Tigers drafted De La Rosa in the seventh round of the 2018 Major League Baseball Draft, selecting him with the 195th overall pick.
West Michigan jumped on the board first in game two, scoring two in the fifth, highlighted by a Jose King RBI-single to take a 2-0 lead. A bases-loaded walk scored the Dragons first run in the sixth before adding two more in the top half of the eighth to take the lead, 3-2.
Reynaldo Rivera tied the game with a sacrifice fly in the bottom half of the eighth, but the Whitecaps were unable to hold the advantage as the Dragons struck for two runs in the ninth to steal the series finale
The Whitecaps will begin a six-game road trip against the Peoria Chiefs on Tuesday at 7:35 pm. West Michigan sends righty Garrett Hill off the injured list to start on the mound against the Chiefs top-ranked offense.
