General Motors plants temporarily shutdown across North America, except Flint Assembly - ABC 12 News

FLINT, Mich. (WJRT) - General Motors will temporarily shut down production at nearly all of its North American assembly plants for the next two weeks

The automaker says the global shortage of computer chips is getting worse. In all, eight plants across the country will be affected over the next two weeks.

However, ABC12 has learned that the Flint Assembly plant will remain open. The plant makes the popular and profitable Chevrolet Silverado HD and GMC Sierra HD pickup trucks.

Ford will stop making pickups at its Kansas City Assembly Plant for the next two weeks. Shifts will be cut at two more truck plants in Dearborn, Michigan, and Louisville, Kentucky.

Industry analysts say the delta variant of the novel coronavirus has hit employees at chip factories in southeast Asia hard, forcing some plants to close. That’s worsened a chip shortage that was starting to improve earlier in the summer.
