General Motors has announced its OnStar Guardian mobile app is available to all customers in the United States and Canada with a compatible Apple or Android device. The app was previously only available to customers who owned a GM vehicle.
First launched in June 2020, the OnStar Guardian app features mobile crash response, which uses smartphone sensors to detect crashes and alert an emergency-certified OnStar Advisor. New features including location notifications such as the departure or arrival of up to seven additional members in the My Family section.
Other features include roadside assistance and 24-hour emergency services, where a professional will help you contact first responders, get them an accurate location, and guide customers through the situation.
“We are excited to deliver the power and promise of OnStar’s key safety features to more people in more places with the expanded launch of OnStar Guardian,” says Santiago Chamorro, GM vice president of Global Connected Services.
“Over the past year, we’ve heard incredible stories that illustrate how OnStar Guardian has helped our members. As pandemic-related restrictions relax and people begin to travel again, we understand it is important that everyone feels protected and connected. That is why we are expanding this subscription offering based on our expansive insights.”
Starting in June, OnStar will donate $1 to the Alzheimer’s Association for each download of the app to show their commitment to the safety and well-being of families and their loved ones.
The app is now available for standalone subscription plans for anyone in the U.S. and Canada.
