CNN host Jake Tapper and Vice President Mike Pence got into a back-and-forth over immigration Sunday regarding what President Trump's administration would do to address the humanitarian needs on the border.
"It is horrific what is happening at our borders, and President Trump has said he could fix this in 15 minutes if the Democrats will sit down with us, close the loopholes, provide the resources we need to deal with the influx," Pence asserted.
"I think Democrats would argue they want to do a deal with President Trump, but he hasn't showed any inclination," Tapper said before he attempted to go on to another question.
"I don't know where that would come from," Pence cut in.
"You said a second ago that 90% of people who get detained don't show up for their court dates, and the Justice Department data says it's 60% to 70%," Tapper said.
The immigration discussion comes after an influx of illegal immigration in 2019 with over 1 million expected illegal immigrants within the year. Trump announced Saturday he was planning to delay a massive crackdown and deportation move by Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
