LORDSTOWN, Ohio – Lordstown Motors Corp. is gearing up for a big race this weekend.
The company today posted a video on its YouTube channel showing assembly workers building the Endurance all-electric pickup truck that will compete in the San Felipe 250 this Saturday in Baja, Mexico.
The event is a rigorous, 280-mile off-road race sponsored by SCORE International.
Workers in the video, dubbed “Getting to Baja Takes Work,” are seen welding, grinding, fastening parts, and performing diagnostics on the vehicle’s chassis and wheel hubs.
“We are thrilled to be participating in this legendary and historic event,” the company posted on its channel. The race is scheduled for April 17.
In February, Lordstown Motors unveiled a rendering of the truck it plans to race at Baja. And, on March 31, the electric auto startup showed off the first two of its beta production models manufactured at the company’s plant in Lordstown.
Lordstown Motors is in the process of manufacturing 57 beta models, which are used for safety validation and crash testing. The company plans to begin pre-production of the Endurance this summer and start full production by the end of September.
Work at the plant is proceeding amid at least four class action lawsuits recently filed against the company. The lawsuits allege Lordstown Motors misled investors over public claims it had secured more than 100,000 preorders of the Endurance truck, when the orders were actually nonbinding letters of intent.
