DiversityInc has announced its list of the Top 50 Companies For Diversity, which places General Motors in 38th, putting it above Walgreens at 39th, and below AIG at 37th.
Notably, General Motors rival Stellantis is ranked below General Motors at 43rd, while Ford is not included on the list at all. Hilton is the top-ranked company for this year’s list. Toyota is the top-ranked automotive company included in the list at 7th place.
Last year, General Motors was ranked 30th on the DiversityInc Top 50 Companies For Diversity list.
DiversityInc publishes its annual Top 50 Companies For Diversity list using empirical data obtained through a 200-question survey filled out by competing organizations. Participation is free. Survey methodology and analysis is based on specific categories developed by DiversityInc.
“With more than 200 questions — everything from women representation in management, to Blacks and Latinos getting promotions into management, to leadership accountability when it comes to promoting diversity and inclusion — companies can see how they stack up against their competition and beyond when it comes to championing diversity and inclusion,” DiversityInc states.
Back in September, General Motors agreed to share once private data on the race, ethnicity, and gender of its workforce with the New York City Comptroller, with the goal of encouraging transparency for those companies that make explicit public statements on supporting diversity or inclusion.
Then in December, General Motors became a founding member of the OneTen initiative, which aims to provide one million Black Americans with jobs in the next decade to promote workplace diversity.
“Our goal is to create a climate where everyone is valued for who they are, and able to contribute in a way that elevates their skills and passions while working as one team to grow our business,” said General Motors Chief of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, Telva McGruder. “Galvanizing our global team in trust, transparency and innovation will allow us to not only lead the industry but more positively impact communities and the world.”
