Tautges is the first Saints player to hit for the cycle since 2000.
Luke Schemenauer had three hits, three runs, an RBI and walk and Cody Venske had two hits, two runs and four RBIs to lead the Saints offensively in the opener. Pitchers Jack Perala and Chase Bredl combined to hold the Rams to three hits while striking out nine.
Tautges, leading off, finished the second game 4-for-4 with five runs, two RBIs and two walks. He singled, doubled, homered then tripled for the cycle.
Teammate Jake Schelonka had three hits, two runs and two RBIs, extending his hitting streak to nine games, while Bryce Huffman had two hits, two runs and three RBIs to lead the Saints (15-5 overall, 11-3), who have scored at least 11 runs in six straight games.
Tautges finished the day with seven runs and four walks. He has now reached base in all 20 games this season.
T.J. Martin earned the pitching win as four Saints combined to hold North Central to five hits, with 13 strikeouts helping offset seven walks.
Sophomore Rene Brockman had a three-run homer to lead the Rams (6-11, 3-8).
The UMAC postseason golf awards were announced Tuesday as five-time defending UMAC champion St. Scholastica earned a sweep with the Player of the Year in senior Hannah Johnson of Two Harbors, Rookie of the Year in Anna Lindemann of St. Michael, Minnesota, and the Coach of the Year in Rachel Gray.
Johnson and Lindemann were joined on the team by sophomore Olivia Wright of International Falls and junior Hannah Garcia of Becker, Minnesota.
St. Scholastica had two men’s all-conference selections in senior Anthony Ahrens of Virginia and senior Sam Long of Stillwater, Minnesota, while senior Liam Butche of Duluth East was named honorable mention.
Elliot Schneider (Duluth East) and Jack Kearney (Hibbing) won their No. 1 doubles match 8-2 as St. Scholastica blanked Martin Luther 9-0 in the UMAC tournament semifinals at Longview Tennis Club in Duluth.
In singles, Schneider improved to 11-0 with a 6-3, 6-1 victory at the No. 1 spot, becoming the 11th player in program history to record 50 career singles victories.
The Saints (9-4) advanced to the championship where they will play the winner of the other semifinal between Wisconsin-Superior Northwestern at 4 p.m. Friday at Longview.
